As a Colorado award winning DJ, and professional wedding MC (Master of Ceremonies), brides continually ask me, “Matt, what’s a great song to walk back down the aisle to after my ceremony that is not only unique, but fun? Oh, and one that isn’t overplayed…yet?” We’ve got 10 unique wedding ceremony recessional songs for you!
That’s a great question!
In fact, as the chosen wedding DJ for Brookside Gardens in Berthoud, we had three weddings in a matter of weeks (per wedding photos). All three weddings at Brookside Gardens were very, very different with different visions, different tastes, and a different wedding vibe.
The post “I do” song sets the tone
The reality is…that whether a bride knows it or not, this is the absolute most important song she will pick on her big day. YES! It’s the recessional. After the “I do’s” are said, and the couple turns to face their guests and walk back down the aisle. It is, in fact, the most important song of the wedding day.
Here’s why it’s so important:
This seemingly innocuous song song sets the tone and fully forecasts guests’ expectations (and perception) of the wedding celebration (reception) that is to follow.
If the song selected is, say, formal (like a traditional, classical piece), then guests subconsciously expect a formal, black tie, dare I even say, “stuffy” celebration to follow. If she selects a wedding recessional song that is fun and upbeat, then guests expect a fun, upbeat celebration, in their future. If you want guests to have fun, well, then play something fun!
So, what are my 10 unique wedding ceremony recessional songs to “rock the walk” back down the aisle after saying “I do?”
