The ceremonial cutting of the cake is first “official” act a married couple completes together. That lends itself to the question, to smash or not smash? Feeding one another is the second ceremonial act that a married couple officially completes together. As an experienced Estes Park wedding DJ and Master of Ceremonies (MC), we’ve come up with lots of lots of unique Colorado wedding cake ideas instead of smashing the cake in each other’s face.
Symbolism of the wedding cake
Once the cake has been cut, the bride and groom feed each other’s the first slice symbolizing their commitment to provide to one another. Unfortunately, this symbolism has been lost and replaced with the smashing of the cake. Let’s really think about this for a moment. You just your hair and make up professionally done, you’re wearing a gorgeous wedding gown, and the groom is looking sharp in his tux. The photographer and videographer is capturing everything. Guests have their cell phones out as well. It’s all ready to be forever recorded.
Something to think about…
Do you really want to wear butter cream frosting on your face, and all over in your hair? As your Colorado wedding DJ, we personally think it’s tacky. We understand the temptation and pressure to wedding guests what they want, but consider this special moment and what it really means. Yes, they want some drama. So, give them some drama. Something dramatically romantic instead.
Tasteful cake ideas:
After the first bite, seep your beloved in your arms with a kiss that will make grandma blush. Playfully kiss away a tiny dollop of frosting from each other’s mouth, or take your finger and put a tiny dollop of frosting on your sweetheart’s nose. Maybe seductively lick butter cream frosting off each other’s fingers (or off your own finger).
If that doesn’t satisfy them, then smash cake into the most eager guest wanting to smash cake onto one another. That will always work.
