Unique wedding ideas that are different. Specific ideas that tap will into their family heritage, history or personal tastes; especially for the cocktail hour. Here’s a couple creative ideas we’ve suggested to our Colorado brides (and they’ve done them) for a flavorful cocktail hour.
Northern Colorado Wedding DJ Hint: Combine fun flavors and do something daring!
This one is a fun surprise for guests that will leave guests smitten with fun details and a whimsical twist. Imagine a pickle bar. Yes, you heard right. A pickle bar! We suggested a pickle bar to a couple who were avid pickle lovers from the South as a way to personalize their wedding cocktail hour. So, they had an actual pickle bar complete with a myriad of pickle flavors, from: ginger, horseradish, spicy, extra spicy, half sour, full sour, garlic, sweet (bread and butter) and kosher dills. It was very cool…and so uniquely them! Every pickle was completely gone by the end of the cocktail hour. Guests absolutely loved it!
Pickle bar suggestions:
1) Take the time to taste test a few specific varieties first to see which ones you like long before the wedding. Nothing is worse than having a quart of yucky pickles….except three quarts in three different varieties you or your guests won’t eat. For example, visit World Market, Whole Foods and perhaps Sprouts. They appear to have a few different varieties to get you started for sampling. Also, try online. This couple also had some shipped from PickleMePete.com and CountryMercantile.com. (FYI, smaller whole pickles, or spears work best so that guests don’t get stuck with a giant pickle they absolutely don’t like or can’t finish).
2) Do NOT serve homemade pickles! There is simply too much liability and risk if they aren’t done correctly. Nobody wants botulism. Spend the little extra money and buy from a well established, proper pickling facility.
You can also offer the same concept, but with an olive bar, or other specific foods from your heritage to introduce a fun flavor.
Northern Colorado Wedding DJ Asks, “Want to think really out of the box?”
How about a potato bar for the cocktail hour? Yes, we’ve seen mashed potato bar with an array of topping served in martini glasses, or a potato skin (mini wedge) bar with toppings at multiple weddings, but how about this creative idea and take it one step further? We suggested this one, and guests loved it!
A potato chip bar. Everyone loves potato chips. Add a giant scoop, tasteful display then provide an array of salty and sweet extras to top their chips with flavorful extras (ie. bacon, sour cream, crumbled feta cheese or blue cheese, sriracha hot sauce, etc.) and let guests experiment.
(You’ll want to specifically avoid the messy nacho cheese!) Instead, trust us, they’ll have fun creating their own version of the next, new Lay’s potato chip flavor…and there’s some crazy ones out there.
